Past FOX schedules:  2016     2015     2014     2013     2012     2011 MONDAYS 8:00 Lucifer (3rd Season) 9:00 THE GIFTED Easily FOX's biggest hope in its 2017-18 schedule comes on Monday nights and its first ever Marvel series, The Gifted . FOX is already promoting the show big time and I'm sure it will get the vast majority of FOX's summer and NFL promo spots. FOX needs a show like this to premiere big but as ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. proved, a big launch doesn't necessarily lead to long term success. Its lead-in will be Lucifer , which has been a steady player and will move an hour earlier. This is one of four nights on FOX with at least one sci-fi/supernatural show and one of two nights where both shows fit that mold. As networks are unveiling their schedules, CBS was still in the business of cancelling some shows. They axed The Odd Couple after three seasons and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders after two. The Odd Couple was able to cheat death last year by having a better than expected late spring run. It even managed to land on the fall schedule this year after CBS expanded its comedy hours. But it was easily the weak link of the Monday sitcom block and ended its season early. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was an underperformer last year that also managed to get renewed partly due to its worldwide appeal with its setting and the brand name. But it could never get itself going this year. Spinoffs of Criminal Minds have now lasted a total of three seasons while the mother ship is heading into its 13th season in the fall.

The thriller military drama The Brave (formerly known as For God and Country ) gets the coveted post- Voice slot and will try to do a better job than Timeless or Taken . Unlike last year, it appears to have a chance to be here all year if the ratings are good. CBS announced today that it has renewed medical drama Code Black for a third season. The show has now escaped death twice with its chances improving as the spring goes on both years and it has managed to eke out renewals thanks to being replaced by weaker shows and internal support at CBS. We'll see if it can manage to pull of a surprise like last fall and end up again on the fall schedule.
