As they did last year, the CW announced a flurry of renewals at their Winter TCA Day. Renewed for 2017-18 were Supergirl (season 3, 2nd on CW), The Flash (season 4), Arrow (season 6),  DC's Legends of Tomorrow (season 3), Supernatural (season 13), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (season 3), and Jane the Virgin (season 4). The DC shows ( Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow ) are the backbone of the CW lineup. Supergirl has made a successful transition to the CW after a year on CBS and while the superhero shows are down some from last year, they had a very successful four show crossover in December. Supernatural has been around since the WB days and continues to be a reliable performer. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin are low rated but critical darlings, which is rare for the CW and network shows in general. The lead actresses of both shows were nominated for Golden Globes tonight. These seven shows encompassed all shows currently airing on the CW except the...

EMERALD CITY Starring: Adria Arjona, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, with Joely Richardson, and Vincent D'Onofrio Based on the "Oz" Book Series by L. Frank Baum Developed by Matthew Arnold and Josh Friedman Teleplay by Matthew Arnold and Josh Friedman, Directed by Tarsen Singh Emerald City is the newest take on The Wizard of Oz and it feels sort of like the creators wanted to make a Game of Thrones version of the classic tale. It starts in present-day Kansas where we meet Dorothy (Adria Arjona). After a tornado, she lands in Oz but it's a very different Oz than the one we know from the iconic film. Along the way, we meet very different versions of the usual characters including, in the pilot, the Scarecrow (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), the Witch of the West (Ana Ularu), Glinda (Joely Richardson), and the Wizard (Vincent D'Onofrio). This is an update of a story that we absolutely didn't need. It...
