On Wednesday night, ABC was all new starting with The Middle which was even in viewers but down a tenth in the demo for a season low. Suburgatory followed up a tenth in viewers and the demo. This is the first time it has shown real growth out of The Middle which is a good sign as it nears the end of its first season. At 9pm, Modern Family was up half a million viewers and three tenths in the demo. Just like in the 1990s, a Disney episode helps an ABC sitcom in the ratings! At 9:30pm, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 was even in viewers and the demo but the lead-in was up nicely so it probably should have been up some as well. It was renewed anyway though but where will it air next season? At 10pm, Revenge was down a tenth in viewers and up a tenth in the demo.

On CBS, Survivor started off the night up six tenths in viewers and two tenths in the demo ahead of Sunday's finale. At 9pm, Criminal Minds was up a tenth in viewers and down a tenth in the demo. Finally at 10pm, the season finale of CSI was up nine tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. I think it's safe to say that the move to Wednesday and the addition of Ted Danson helped revitalize a show that was slowly slipping away on Thursdays. Now in a less pressurized timeslot, it is doing quite well for CBS.

On NBC, two episodes of Betty White's Off Their Rockers were both up from their respective episodes last week. This is one show that hasn't gotten an official renewal from NBC yet but I have to think they'll put it somewhere next season, maybe not in the fall. At 9pm, Rock Center with Brian Williams was down eight tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo and it has now been pulled for the rest of May. Finally at 10pm, Law & Order: SVU was down seven tenths in viewers and a tenth in the demo. Finally on FOX, American Idol was down two tenths in viewers and the demo as it continues to head in the wrong direction with the finale nearing.

EPISODE GUIDES: Rhoda Season Five

On Thursdays, I go through classic series with a critical look at each season. Today I am looking at Season Five (the final season) of  Rhoda ! RHODA: SEASON FIVE 1978 13 episodes Rhoda' s final season was a truncated one as the show was cancelled in December 1978 after only 13 episodes had been produced (and only nine had aired). This feels like a continuation from season four in many ways except with the ill-advised split between Ida and Martin (more on that below). While  Rhoda  has an occasional good moment and even a couple decent episodes, it is a show that seems so wildly different from season one and not in a good way.  Rhoda  could never figure out what it fully wanted to be and only made it four and a half seasons as a result.
