On Wednesday night, NBC had a special night of The Voice and it was a series low for a non-clip show with numbers well below its Monday & Tuesday numbers. It was a huge improvement in the timeslot though and helped Law & Order: SVU rise a million viewers and three tenths in the demo for its best performance since November 19. At 10pm, Chicago PD was up a tenth in viewers but down a tenth in the demo despite a better lead-in. CBS had a great night from Survivor, which was up two tenths in viewers and three tenths in the demo. It easily beat both The Voice and American Idol. Not bad for a show that's older than both of the long-running singing competitions. At 9pm, Criminal Minds was up three tenths in viewers and even in the demo while CSI: Cyber closed out the night up a tenth in viewers and the demo. This bubble show still has a chance so any little rise helps.

Over on ABC, The Middle started things off down three tenths in viewers but up a tenth in the demo while The Goldbergs was down seven tenths in viewers and even in the demo. Not bad for having to go against The Voice this week. Black-ish had a Modern Family repeat as a lead-in and was down 1.3 million viewers and half a demo point, tying a series low. That's a big drop, but it's not that horrible considering the lead-in was a repeat this week. The biggest problem for ABC came at 10pm where Nashville was down half a million viewers and two tenths in the demo for a series low. It's never been below a 1.3 this season so this was pretty bad and it's coming at a time when the show is trying to secure a renewal. Against The Voice, FOX's American Idol had an absolutely terrible outing. It was down 1.9 million viewers and four tenths in the demo for an easy series low. This is getting pretty dire for the long-running competition. It's time for FOX to start thinking about life after Idol. It's a shell of what it once was.

WINNER OF THE NIGHT: Survivor (CBS)
LOSER OF THE NIGHT: American Idol (FOX)
