RENEWAL ALERT: Law & Order: SVU

Amid a flurry of pilot pickups, NBC has renewed Law & Order: SVU for a 14th season which continues to push it up the list of longest running dramas of all time. The show underwent some changes this year after longtime co-star Christopher Meloni left the series at the end of last season. The show added Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino to the cast and while the show has taken a hit in the ratings, it isn't necessarily due to the changes. More likely, it's the competition from the similarly themed CSI in the Wednesday 10pm timeslot. Maybe NBC will put it somewhere else next year, I think Thursday or Friday at 10pm could be a good option.

Despite the fact that NBC has picked up many shows, there are still very few renewals as Law & Order: SVU joins only Grimm and Smash for official pickups. Many comedies including 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Community, The Office, Up All Night, and Whitney are in contention at varying levels. Most other dramas are done or soon to be done but Parenthood and Harry's Law aren't counted out yet with Parenthood having the better chance for a pickup.
