CANCELLATION ALERT: Terra Nova

After months of speculation, Terra Nova has been cancelled by FOX. FOX needed to make a decision before the Upfronts in May so that the show would have enough time to be ready for fall as there were lots of production needs. The show was a landmark drama in terms of CGI effects for television but debuted to modest numbers and dropped from there in its 13 episode fall season. Its chances for a pickup seemed to improve since it ended its season as FOX has seen new midseason dramas The Finder and Alcatraz fizzle as well as House decide to end its run. But it was not to be and Terra Nova got the ax anyway. In its first and only season, it averaged 7.5 million viewers and a 2.5 in the demo.

Terra Nova joins Allen Gregory as the only official FOX cancellations while, as mentioned, House will end its long-run this spring. Already renewed is The X-Factor, American Dad!, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy, Kitchen Nightmares, and The Simpsons. There are many shows with fates undecided but of those shows, sure bet renewals are American Idol, Bones, Glee, and New Girl. Likely cancellations are Alcatraz, The Finder, Fringe, and I Hate My Teenage Daughter. On the fence is Raising Hope and Napoleon Dynamite while Bob's Burgers, Breaking In, and the new Touch have yet to debut.
