ABC was the only network airing new episodes on Thursday night and it benefited from the lack of competition. The season premiere of Wipeout delivered solid numbers but it was way below last year's season premiere this same week of 11.7 million viewers and a 3.8 demo. ABC has run this show into the ground by airing it too much and it will likely dip heavily in the coming weeks against The Big Bang Theory and American Idol. So, good for tonight, but probably not in the long run. At 9pm, Grey's Anatomy showed that it can still be a big demo player as it was up eight tenths in viewers and four tenths in the demo in its first airing since way back on November 10. This is a season high for the veteran drama and while there was little competition, this is still a great performance. At 10pm, Private Practice was up half a million viewers and a tenth in the demo from its last airing on November 17.
