PILOT REVIEW: Celebrity Wife Swap

CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP

THE GOOD: I didn't watch the original Wife Swap so maybe it was just basically the same thing but I did find the whole premise interesting. Maybe it was the strong selection of the first two celebrities (despite not being huge names anymore, Carnie Wilson and Tracey Gold had personalities that were tailor made for this show). Even though the show was likely somewhat manipulated by the producers, there was a fair amount of honesty and realness with Wilson and Gold and the contrast between them was really interesting. In all honestly, I liked it more than I thought I would.

THE BAD: I'm not sold on the series in general, though. If you liked Wife Swap or if you like a specific celebrity, then watch it. If not, it's nothing special. Carnie Wilson and Tracey Gold were good but the show's still borderline trashy. Also if we're critiquing the specific episode, Tracey Gold has a little bit too firm of a grasp on her family and Carnie Wilson's husband is a deadbeat weirdo. Just my opinion.

BOTTOM LINE: This show will be fine for what it's supposed to be. As cheap reality filler, this show does what it does and doesn't do it too bad. Unlike most new reality or game shows, it's not overproduced. It has an element of genuineness to it and that's about all we can ask for.
